Polish Duo Coals Discuss New Album 'Magia' and Their Role in Poland's Dream Pop Scene

The Polish musical duo Coals, consisting of Łukasz 'Lucassi' Rozmysłowski and Katarzyna 'Kacha' Kowalczyk, are preparing to release their upcoming album 'magia' in June 2026. The pair, who derive their name from the coal-mining region of Silesia where they grew up, first connected online in 2013 and quickly gained attention with early singles like 'Weightless.' Their music, which they describe as dream pop, indietronica, and glitch/avant-pop, has evolved from spontaneous beginnings to a more deliberate creative approach. Coals have collaborated with Polish rappers such as Żabson and Schafter, expanding their audience within Poland's hip-hop community. Their forthcoming record explores themes of escapism and magic, reflecting a response to contemporary crises and transactional relationships. The duo notes that while Poland has a strong experimental music tradition, dream pop remains less developed, positioning them as contributors to that genre. They are also planning concerts following the album's release.
