PLNLstudio Converts Amsterdam Sewage Tank into Trommel No.4 Apartment

PLNLstudio, located in Rotterdam, has repurposed a storage tank from a former sewage treatment facility into the Trommel no.4 apartment in Amsterdam, showcasing the concept of adaptive reuse. SeARCH architects designed the project, focusing on an efficient layout to accommodate the client's requirements for workspace and storage. The design harmonizes the building's shape with concrete flooring, bespoke furniture, and reflective stainless-steel features. Built-in wardrobes and subtle compartments maximize space, while natural light floods every area, including the bathroom and walk-in closet, through glass doors and internal windows. Although the ceiling heights are modest, the design fosters an open feeling. The project's achievement stems from effective client collaboration, yielding excellent results within a limited budget.
