Piero Lissoni Designs Exclusive Haven Aboard Norwegian Cruise Line's New Prima-Class Ship Luna

Italian designer Piero Lissoni has overseen The Haven, an exclusive 'ship within a ship' area aboard Norwegian Cruise Line's newest luxury liner, the Norwegian Luna. The ship, measuring 1,056 feet long and weighing 156,000 gross tonnes, is the latest in NCL's Prima Class and began its inaugural cruise from the Port of Miami. The Haven, also found on sister ship Norwegian Aqua, offers a boutique hotel experience at sea with Art Deco-infused glamour, featuring private decks, an infinity pool, cabanas, lounges, a restaurant, and a library, accessible by key card. Built at Italy's Fincantieri shipyard for approximately $850 million, the Luna is one of six ordered Prima-class vessels. It accommodates 3,565 guests with a crew of 1,500 and will operate Caribbean itineraries from Miami, visiting NCL's private islands Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas and Harvest Caye in Belize. The broader ship includes extensive amenities like an 'Aqua Slidecoaster', water slides, a casino, arcade, sports complex, theater, spa, gym, and 17 restaurants. NCL, founded in Norway in 1966, acquired Great Stirrup Cay in 1977, where development continues with a new pier and waterpark. The cruise industry has seen post-pandemic profits, with ships like Luna aiming for payback within six years through onboard spending. Design across most of the ship follows a multi-themed resort aesthetic, contrasting with The Haven's curated retreat.
