Piero Dorazio's Tic-Tac Rosso Shatters Record at Ketterer Kunst Auction

Piero Dorazio's Tic-Tac Rosso (1959-1960) sold for over $3 million at Ketterer Kunst in Munich, decupling its estimate of $351,000 and setting a new world auction record for the artist. The previous record was held by Troppo segreto (1961), which sold for about $850,000 at Christie's Paris in 2022 from the Hubert de Givenchy collection. The monumental canvas, nearly two meters per side, belongs to Dorazio's most celebrated period of the late 1950s and early 1960s, when he gained international recognition. The work was exhibited at the XXX Venice Biennale in 1960, a milestone for the artist. It had been held in a German private collection for over 25 years and has been featured in numerous museum exhibitions across Europe and the United States. The auction occurred just days before Art Basel, drawing less attention than the fair.
