Pichwai Tradition Reimagined in London Exhibition Feast, Melody & Adornment

Curator and collector Pooja Singhal presents the exhibition Feast, Melody & Adornment at London's Mall Galleries from July 2 to July 6, 2025. The show reinterprets the historic Pichwai painting tradition through a contemporary lens, framed by the triadic concepts of Raag (music), Bhog (ritual offering), and Shringar (adornment). Singhal, who founded Pichvai Tradition & Beyond a decade ago, aims to expand the devotional art form into broader aesthetic and art historical contexts while preserving its spiritual core. The exhibition features works created with traditional materials like natural pigments, gold leaf, and squirrel-hair brushes, alongside innovative curatorial interventions such as greyscale temple maps and architectural jharokha frames. Artists from the tradition are exploring new scales and color palettes. Singhal's personal collection includes pieces dating to the 16th century. The exhibition previously appeared at venues including the India Art Fair, Kochi Biennale, and Famous Studios in Mumbai. It seeks to engage global audiences by balancing authenticity with modern visual language, positioning Pichwai within the revival of Indian miniature and textile arts.
