Picasso, Magritte, Man Ray in Major Courtauld-Reuben Display

The Courtauld Gallery will open 'Modern Painting from the Courtauld and Reuben Collections' on 18 September 2026, showcasing works by Pablo Picasso, René Magritte, Man Ray, Fernand Léger, and Juan Gris. The exhibition is part of a long-term partnership with the Reuben Foundation, launched in 2025. Highlights include Man Ray's 'Black Widow (Nativity)' (1915), not exhibited in the UK for over fifty years, and three Picasso paintings from the late 1930s and early 1940s, including two portraits of Marie-Thérèse Walter and Dora Maar never previously shown in Britain. Magritte's 'The Dominion of Light' series and 'The Intimate Friend' will also feature. The display traces modern painting from Post-Impressionism through Cubism to Surrealism, beginning with works by Paul Cézanne and Amedeo Modigliani. The Reuben Foundation made the largest financial gift in the Courtauld's history in 2025, supporting its future Strand campus opening in 2029.
