Photographer João Linneu Documents Premature Birth of Son Valentín
Photographer João Linneu's series 'JJ VFF VV' tenderly documents the premature birth of his son Valentín in São Paulo, Brazil, from May 2014 to June 2015. The project began when Linneu started taking daily photos of his partner Fernanda Fajardo after discovering her high-risk pregnancy. Valentín was born in December 2014 weighing only 1.32 kg and spent three months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Hospital das Clínicas, where photography was prohibited. Linneu and Fajardo secretly captured moments, including the first time they saw their son and skin-to-skin 'kangaroo care' sessions. The series includes a photo of lightning strikes near the hospital taken by Linneu during his partner's hospitalization. After Valentín's return home in March 2015, he required further hospitalization in June 2015 for a lumbar puncture. Now 11, Valentín is aware of this photographic record.
