Photographer Captures Traditional Spearfishers During Weather Shift on Philippine Beach

Photographer Easelyn Pineda captured an image of two Filipino spearfishers in motion at Laiya beach during changing weather conditions last September. Pineda, who lives in Quezon City, was visiting the coastal area with friends when she observed the local fishermen continuing their activity despite rain and gloom. The photograph documents traditional subsistence fishing practices as the individuals sought to gather food. The scene occurred during a late afternoon when ocean winds increased and light rain began. Pineda described witnessing their determination as a humbling experience to record.
