Phillips New York Design Sale Led by Private Collections of Influential Women

Phillips will hold its New York Design Sale on June 12 at 2:00 pm, featuring twentieth-century and contemporary design from notable private collections. The auction is anchored by collections assembled by Tina Hills, Agnete Laursen, Anna de Carmel, and Inger-Marie Tanier. The Laursen collection, kept within the same family for nearly a century, includes rare Finn Juhl works such as a wall-mounted cabinet previously known only from archival photos, a unique bar cabinet, and early seating designs, plus Flemming Lassen's 'Den trætte mand' armchair. From the Tanier collection comes Juhl's iconic 'Chieftain' chair and a recently rediscovered Paavo Tynell floor lamp. Anna de Carmel's collection highlights British studio pottery with a Lucie Rie footed bowl and Hans Coper's 'Poppy Head' pot. The sale continues the dispersal of 'A Life in Color: Property from the Estate of Tina Hills,' featuring Dale Chihuly's large 'Macchia' and William Morris's 'Hanging Petroglyph' and 'Canopic Jar: Sable Antelope.' A rare George Nakashima 'Conoid' bench with a single arm is offered, alongside Harry Bertoia's 'Rare (Untitled) Sonambient' from the estate of gallerist Benjamin Mangel. French design includes Jean Prouvé's 'Flavigny' table and Elizabeth Garouste and Mattia Bonetti's 'Rodéo' desk and chair. Works will be on view at 432 Park Avenue from June 5–11.
