Philippine President's Visit Highlights Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited Canada, revealing the country's ambitions in the Indo-Pacific region. The visit included meetings with Canadian business leaders and investors to explore opportunities in mining, IT, business process management, telecommunications, nuclear energy, and financial services. Marcos also met with the overseas Filipino community in Vancouver, which has one of the largest concentrations of the diaspora in Canada. Analysts note that while both the Philippines and Canada are US allies, they are looking to expand partnerships with other middle-power countries. Vina Nadjibulla of the Asia Pacific Foundation Canada stated that the Philippines is an important starting point because it is where Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy has had its greatest impact.
