Philippe Broussard and Jean-David Morvan Turn the MC Ruby Massacre Into a Graphic Novel

publication · 2026-10-19

Dupuis has published L'Odyssée tragique du MC Ruby, a graphic novel by Le Monde journalist Philippe Broussard and comics writer Jean-David Morvan. The book reconstructs a November 1992 massacre at sea: eight African stowaways from Ghana and Cameroon were thrown overboard by Ukrainian crew members of the cargo ship MC Ruby, which was bound for Le Havre. One man, Ofusu Kingsley Cudjoe, survived. Broussard traced the story across Ghana and Ukraine for his investigation, which now forms the basis of the album. The RFI culture segment presenting the book was published on 19 October 2026.
