Philippa Perry publishes debut cosy crime novel Shrink Solves Murder

publication · 2026-06-02

Psychotherapist and TV broadcaster Philippa Perry, 68, has released her first murder mystery novel, Shrink Solves Murder, set in the South Downs where she lives with her husband, artist Grayson Perry. The book follows a psychotherapist who suspects a beach death is not suicide. Perry describes the novel as a 'cosy crime' page-turner for fans of Agatha Christie and Richard Coles. She chose the setting of Birling Gap in East Sussex because walking there feeds her imagination. Unlike her non-fiction bestseller The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read, she found writing fiction felt like playing. Perry says she keeps her writing private from friends and family to maintain her own vision. She plans to continue writing murder mysteries as the next phase of her life.
