Peter Doig Curates 'The Street' Exhibition at Gagosian's Closing Madison Avenue Location

Gagosian Gallery is presenting 'The Street,' an exhibition curated by painter Peter Doig at its 980 Madison Avenue location in New York until December 18, 2024. This show serves as a final presentation before the gallery permanently closes this venue. Doig assembled works from various artists across different periods and regions to examine urban environments. The exhibition features Balthus's 1933 painting 'The Street' from MoMA's collection, which hasn't been displayed publicly since 2000, alongside Frank Auerbach's 1976 work 'Rimbaud' from the Tate, Mark Rothko's early 1936 piece, and contributions from artists including Max Beckmann, Denzil Forrester, Prunella Clough, Satoshi Kojima, and Lotte Maiwald. Originally developed for the Musée d'Orsay, the exhibition highlights connections between urban experiences depicted by artists from Paris, London, and New York.
