Permanent Observatory Launched to Monitor Art and Cultural Heritage Loans

A permanent observatory focusing on art and cultural heritage loans was established in Florence, Italy. The initiative, promoted by Save the Artistic Heritage and Musei Civici Fiorentini, was presented at Palazzo Vecchio. Research conducted by Guido Guerzoni surveyed 60 museums, revealing significant growth in museum loans but highlighting transparency issues and economic undervaluation in Italy. The study found that only 44% of Italian museums have dedicated loan management staff, with average annual revenue from loans substantially lower than international counterparts. The observatory aims to develop guidelines and improve collaboration between institutions.
