Pérez Art Museum Miami's Creative Aging Program Transforms Lives Through Art
Since its inception in 2022, the Creative Aging Series at the Pérez Art Museum Miami has made a notable impact as a free art-making initiative for individuals aged 55 and older. Beauchet et al. (2022) found that art programs in museums significantly enhance the well-being and quality of life among seniors. The series features two formats: a four-week immersive workshop held twice a week, including open studio time and public exhibitions, and a new three-day intensive pilot from 10am to 3pm on consecutive days. In its first year, 94 engaged participants attended 48 workshop days, six open studio sessions, and seven field trips. Led by teaching artists such as Tom Virgin and Carolina Cueva, the initiative, backed by E.A. Michelson Philanthropy, aims to foster intergenerational arts programming across U.S. museums. Plans for year-round three-day intensives are underway, with applications for workshops available from August 18 to September 18, 2025.
