Penske Media Acquires Vox Media, Becomes World's Largest Digital Publisher

institutional · 2026-06-19

On June 18, Penske Media Corporation (PMC), under the leadership of Jay Penske, declared its acquisition of Vox Media's entire portfolio, which includes Eater, The Verge, and SB Nation. This acquisition follows a previous transaction exceeding $300 million in which James Murdoch acquired additional Vox properties. With this latest purchase, PMC now oversees Variety, Rolling Stone, Artforum, Artnews, Art in America, and major events such as the Golden Globes and South by Southwest, solidifying its position as the largest digital publisher globally. Additionally, the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation granted $4.5 million to 83 visual arts organizations for 2026. The Schomburg Center secured works from Tschabalala Self, Simone Leigh, and Nona Faustine, while the McNay Art Museum obtained Edra Soto's "Screenhouse." Villa Albertine revealed its residency cohort for 2027, and on June 17, Meow Wolf was featured in The Simpsons.
