Pelli Clarke & Partners Designs Bamboo-Inspired Urban District in Yibin, China

The American architecture firm Pelli Clarke & Partners has completed a masterplan for a new urban district adjacent to the Yibin high-speed railway station in Sichuan Province, China. The 836,000-square-meter, car-free development draws inspiration from the local Shunan Bamboo Forest and the region's hilly landscape. It features a central park, a digital art museum, a shopping complex called Yibin Place by MIXC, and four mixed-use towers. Design elements such as green roofs, terraces, and an extensive canopy system emulate the layered structure of a bamboo forest. The project was developed in collaboration with the Sichuan Provincial Architectural Design & Research Institute.
