Paula Bohince's Poem Responds to Zhao Yao's Eggshell Art
Poet Paula Bohince, a 2026 Guggenheim Fellow, has contributed an original poem titled 'An Entry' to ArtReview's New Poems series. The poem responds to Zhao Yao's minimalist work 'A Few Ordinary Parallel Lines' (2022–25), which consists of horizontal lines made from crushed eggshells, created during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. The work is part of the 59th Carnegie International, on view through 3 January 2027. Bohince's poem explores themes of healing and systems within the artwork's numerical and material structure. Bohince is the author of four collections, most recently 'A Violence' (Princeton, 2025).
