Paul Rudolph's Historic Walker Guest House Offered for Sale in Los Angeles with A$AP Rocky's Interior Contributions

A rare Paul Rudolph-designed house, the Walker Guest House, is currently available for purchase in Los Angeles as part of an invitation-only shopping experience organized by Basic.Space, running through March 29. Originally built in 1952 on Sanibel Island, Florida, the structure was relocated to Yucca Valley, California, in 2019 after being acquired by art collector Peter Galliaert. For this event, the 650-square-foot plywood home was disassembled, transported in shipping containers, and reassembled outside the Pacific Design Center, with architects Raha Talebi and Paul Vantieghem overseeing the installation to ensure alignment with its original 1953 specifications. The house, priced at $2 million, is staged with contemporary furnishings, including contributions from rapper and designer A$AP Rocky, who added items like a Memphis Carlton bookcase and a Gaetano Pesce dining set to blend modern elements with the historic interior. The Walker Guest House is noted as an early example of Rudolph's architectural style, featuring geometric designs and wooden shutters with cannonball counterweights, and has been compared to works by Mies van der Rohe and Philip Johnson. Basic.Space founder Jesse Lee emphasized the goal of contextualizing the house for a broader audience, as many attendees may not have previously encountered a Rudolph design. The event also includes other design elements such as classic cars and streetwear, creating an eclectic setting that highlights the house's unique characteristics.
