Paul&Albert Design Sculptural Cabinet for Citizen Engagement in Assen

Dutch design duo Paul&Albert have created a sculptural cabinet for the municipality of Assen in the Netherlands. The piece, called the Front Door Cabinet, organizes tools used for public communication and community participation. Its design reinterprets residential front doors as symbolic elements representing the relationship between private households and public space. Constructed from deconstructed traditional door components, the cabinet features panels and glazed sections that form a layered structure resembling two doors folding together. Inside, it houses materials for engagement initiatives and displays photographic portraits of local residents. The project serves both as a functional storage system and as a civic object symbolizing the connection between city administration and inhabitants.
