Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo opens San Giacomo island venue in Venice
On May 7, 2026, Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo opened San Giacomo, a lagoon island in Venice acquired in 2018, dedicated to art and sustainability. The event took place after significant rainfall during the Venice Biennale. Converted munitions storehouses on the island serve as exhibition spaces, showcasing Matt Copson's solo exhibit Fanfare/Lament and selections from the Sandretto collection. Outdoor installations feature Pamela Rosenkranz's Old Tree (Pink Seas) 2026 and Goshka Macuga's Gonogo (2023). Notable guests included Sheikha Al-Mayassa Al Thani and Diane von Furstenberg. With a 1,000-year history, the island is self-sustaining and plans to have a vaporetto stop on line 12, marking the third location for the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo.
