Paris Musées Assumes Own Insurance for Permanent Collections, Insures Temporary Exhibitions Privately
According to Anne-Sophie de Gasquet, the director general, Paris Musées manages fourteen museums and opts for self-insurance for its buildings and collections, while relying on commercial insurers for temporary exhibitions. This approach became more pronounced following the theft of five paintings from the Musée d'art moderne de Paris in May 2010. Subsequently, a €17 million security initiative (2010-2015) was implemented, leading to a €120 million renovation plan that incorporated security measures into all projects. The annual budget for security is around €25 million, with €400,000 designated for exhibition insurance in 2025.
