Para Site to Leave Quarry Bay After a Decade, Launch Nomadic Program for 30th Anniversary

institutional · 2026-09-30

Para Site, a nonprofit based in Hong Kong, is leaving its Quarry Bay location after a decade and will implement a "nomadic" initiative throughout the city in 2027 to celebrate its 30th anniversary. The organization launched "Elsewhere in Me," an experimental collaborative project, in June, showcasing new works by both local and international artists. In November, Sydney's Justin Talplacido Shoulder (Phasmahammer) will exhibit, followed by Hong Kong's Yim Sui Fong in December. The program will continue into the following year as Para Site prepares for its yet-to-be-announced new venue. Established in 1996 by artists including Patrick Lee and Leung Chi-wo, Para Site originally started in Sheung Wan before relocating to Quarry Bay in 2015. Executive director James Taylor-Foster, who took on the role in March, shared with the South China Morning Post that this year-long initiative will allow the institution to explore new ideas and partnerships, ultimately influencing its future space, envisioned as "a new anchor point for Para Site in Hong Kong."
