Paola Macchi appointed first general director of MAXXI in Rome

Paola Macchi has been appointed as the first general director of the MAXXI Foundation in Rome, marking a new phase for the museum. The decision was made by the Board of Directors on July 13, following the designation by Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli. Macchi, previously secretary general of MAXXI, now holds a five-year mandate. The new statute, approved on June 15, eliminates the roles of artistic director and secretary general, redistributing responsibilities in a model inspired by the Venice Biennale and Triennale Milano. The general director oversees operational, administrative, and financial management, while the president retains legal representation and cultural strategy. Artistic competencies will be distributed among department directors and a new Management Committee. Macchi's background includes roles at Piccolo Teatro di Milano, Teatro Eliseo, Teatro di Roma, and as administrative director of the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto. Minister Giuli congratulated Macchi, emphasizing her experience as a guarantee for the new organizational model.
