PAO's Gravity Garden Exhibition Explores Spatial Painting and Street Art Evolution

Italian artist PAO has launched a new exhibition titled Gravity Garden, presented in collaboration with SpazioBart and ArteA Gallery. The show represents a significant development in PAO's artistic practice, merging painting, sculpture, and plastic interventions into a dynamic, immersive system. Active since the early 2000s in Milan's street art scene, PAO has progressively expanded his visual language, moving painting beyond flat surfaces into spatial experiences. Gravity Garden functions as a microcosm exploring opposing tensions between lightness and weight, surface and depth, and recognizable pop aesthetics with perceptual shifts. In an interview, PAO discussed the exhibition's origins, noting it emerged from discussions with gallery partners and reflections developed over the past year. The artist explained his ongoing investigation into how painting interacts with three-dimensional space rather than remaining confined to flat planes. PAO described his work as existing between two poles: an accessible pop sensibility featuring bright colors and contemporary visual references, and a more complex exploration of spatial perception influenced by his theater background. The artist reflected on his transition from public space interventions to gallery exhibitions, noting that while street art requires immediate communication in chaotic urban environments, gallery settings allow for more layered, complex readings. PAO emphasized that he continues to identify primarily as a painter working on surfaces that engage with surrounding space. The artist revealed upcoming projects including a September exhibition at Galleria Casati Arte in Monza and a Venice-based street art initiative involving electrical cabinets distributed throughout the city.
