Palmer Museum Archives Alaska Magazine Collection for Research

The Palmer Museum of History and Art has made its Alaska Magazine Collection available for public research. This archival holding comprises 485 issues of the publication, spanning from November 1946 to June 2012, which were donated by the estate of Marian H. Parks in 2013. The collection, processed by Laura Frizzell in June 2017, is housed in eleven boxes and focuses on content relevant to Palmer and the surrounding Matanuska Valley. The magazine, originally founded in 1935 as Alaska Sportsman Magazine by Emery Fridolf Tobin and Ray Roady in Ketchikan, was renamed Alaska in 1969. It covers a wide range of subjects related to life in the state, including wildlife, travel, arts, environment, food, and outdoor activities. The museum has preserved issues in good condition, with digital access to cover and table of contents images, and offers downloadable finding aids in PDF and spreadsheet formats.
