Palermo's Art Scene: Building a Public from Scratch

In Palermo, private capital is reshaping the city's historic center through acquisitions like Hauser & Wirth's purchase of Palazzo Forcella de Seta, which opened sporadically since Manifesta 12 in 2018. Palazzo Butera reopened in 2021 as a house-museum for collectors Massimo and Francesca Valsecchi, while Officine Bellotti, a former paper mill, opened in 2023 as a cultural space without clear curatorial direction.
