Palermo Gallery Offers Napping Space as Artistic Intervention by Pietro Librizzi

Artist Pietro Librizzi has launched an unconventional artistic initiative called 'Pisolineria Librizzi' at Galleria Rollò in Palermo, Italy. The project transforms the gallery into a temporary napping space, offering visitors the opportunity to take short naps rather than view traditional artworks. Librizzi, born in Palermo in 1993 and currently based in Petralia Soprana, describes the intervention as addressing a basic human need often overlooked in contemporary society—the need for rest and pause from urban chaos and work pressures. The gallery, founded in 2025 in Palermo's historic Ballarò market under the artistic direction of Marcella Sciortino, provides an ironic setting for this conceptual work. The initiative includes various service options mimicking commercial packages, such as basic napping, sleep kits with earplugs and eye masks, personalized wake-up calls, and coffee service. Librizzi's project aims to provoke reflection on time, intimacy, and leisure in modern life through this creative action. While distinct from his usual painting practice, which features dreamlike, narrative works with naïve and surreal qualities, the napping installation shares his interest in spaces between wakefulness and sleep, reality and imagination. The temporary intervention will run for several weeks at Galleria Rollò, with potential for replication in other urban locations as a format for artistic and social engagement.
