Out in Architecture, Volume II Collects 22 Queer Voices from the AEC Industry

publication · 2026-09-15

Earlier this year, Out in Architecture, a group dedicated to showcasing the queer community in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sector, released its second book, Out in Architecture, Volume II, through self-publishing. This edition includes 22 new stories from LGBTQIA+ architects and designers, following the first volume that resulted in an interview with the founders in 2024. Contributors reflect on their queer identities tied to childhood, projects, or community, often blending these elements. Given the increasingly hostile political climate toward LGBTQIA+ individuals, the editors note the challenges of public storytelling. The collection is divided into three themes and invites readers to explore it in a non-linear fashion. The book, created entirely by volunteer editors, is priced at $24.
