OTTO Studio Creates Multi-Sensory Sound Arena Installation for Parmigiano Reggiano at Milan Design Week
OTTO Studio - Paola Navone has created an immersive installation called Sound Arena for Parmigiano Reggiano, presented at Interni Materiae during Milan Design Week 2026. The large-scale work transforms a Parmigiano Reggiano cheese wheel into an eight-meter diameter, three-meter high environment where visitors experience the product through multiple senses, with particular emphasis on auditory perception. The installation's exterior features metallic PVC with a bronze finish, perforated with patterns resembling cheese markings and grater textures, while the interior is yellow-toned with sound-absorbing materials. Within the space, various elements representing production ingredients—including milk, salt, hay, flax, and grating tools—generate sounds when approached by visitors. The auditory experience becomes more complex as more people interact with the installation, creating what designers describe as a 'Parmigiano Reggiano sound' performance. The project originated from a collaboration initiated by Interni magazine's editor-in-chief Gilda Bojardi, who envisioned a characteristic Paola Navone installation for the brand. Studio Azzurro contributed their expertise in sound installations to develop the interactive audio components. This marks Parmigiano Reggiano's first participation in the FuoriSalone events, representing an unconventional approach for both the cheese consortium and the design studio, who described the collaboration as a challenging but ultimately harmonious creative process.
