Optik OptiColour 200: New Color Film Reviewed Across Formats
Optik OptiColour 200, also sold as ORWO Wolfen NC200, KONO Color 200, and possibly Lomochrome Classicolor 200, is a new color negative film released in 2025. It is the third film in InovisCoat GmbH's NC line, following NC500 (2022) and NC400 (2023). The ORWO brand, originally from Wolfen, Germany, closed in 1994 before InovisCoat acquired the rights. The film aims for a standard look but retains distinct quirks. In 35mm, it produces muted colors, deep shadows, and heavy grain, with a dim, dusky feel reminiscent of NC400 or Lomochrome Metropolis. Skin tones are accurate, but greens and reds are not especially vibrant. In 120 medium format, results differ significantly: punchy saturated colors, cleaner highlights, and less grain, as seen in tests on Mt. Hood and spring blossoms. The 120 version is exclusive to Optik Oldschool, who may have commissioned a special batch. The film has limited underexposure latitude; overexposure is recommended. It scans decently on a Noritsu S1800, often with a cyan-green cast that corrects easily. The review notes that results vary widely depending on exposure, development, and scanning. Other new color films mentioned include Harman Phoenix (2024), Phoenix II (2025), and Lucky Color C200 (2025).
