Omar Gandhi Architects suspends East River Residence over Nova Scotia's rocky terrain

Omar Gandhi Architects has completed the East River Residence, a home suspended over challenging terrain in Nova Scotia. The firm, with offices in Toronto, Halifax, and Berlin, designed the structure for a couple relocating from Montreal. Slender steel beams support the residence, minimizing impact on the landscape below. A cedar base forms the low-slung home that stretches across steep embankments, topped with a metal-clad gable. This project follows the firm's 2021 viewing platform and 2024 Rockbound residence, both also built on Nova Scotia's rocky coastline. The architects addressed a valley site between two stony embankments by elevating the structure above uneven ground.
