OMA to Transform Istanbul's Ottoman Imperial Arsenal into Mixed-Use District
OMA, under the leadership of Ellen van Loon and Iyad Alsaka, is revamping the historic Tersane-i Âmire, which was once the Ottoman Imperial Arsenal in Istanbul, into a lively waterfront destination called Beymen Tersane. Covering an area of 12,000 m², this redevelopment is set to wrap up by 2026 and will include hotels, cultural spaces, shops, and public areas. The Beymen Group is behind this project, with lighting crafted by ONOFF and Har Hollands, while local input comes from Bağımsız İşler Studio. Having been the naval production center for the Empire for over 400 years, the site had fallen into disrepair. The architect team features various talents, including Anita Ernődi and Michele Zambetti, with photography by Marco Cappelletti.
