Offhand Practice Transforms Shanghai Street Space into Vintage Houseware Gallery
The architectural firm Offhand Practice completed the transformation of a former street dinner venue into a vintage houseware gallery called 'Single Person' in Shanghai. Located at 185 Yongkang Road, the project was curated by HAN Shuang and designed by a team including Yuan Yuan, Nie Xuan, and Li Yue, with visual design by Cynde. The 60-square-meter space, characterized by its long, narrow layout, was repurposed after a site visit in November 2018, with the client deciding on the gallery concept in December of that year. Completed in 2019, the retail interior features products from manufacturers BELLE STONE and JEE-O. Photographs of the project were taken by Yiqing Gao. This architectural intervention represents a creative reuse of urban space, adapting a former dining establishment into a specialized retail environment for vintage items.
