Octagon Artist-Run Space Reopens in Milan with Odilon Redon Exhibition
The artist-run space Octagon has established a permanent home at Via Maroncelli 12 in Milan, opening on April 15, 2026, during the city's Art Week. Its inaugural exhibition features the French Symbolist master Odilon Redon (1840–1916). Founded by artist Jacopo Mazzetti on March 1, 2018, the platform has operated nomadically with projects in Paris and Athens between 2022 and 2025. Octagon's curatorial focus centers on intergenerational dialogue, pairing historical narratives with contemporary perspectives. Its first exhibition in 2018, titled "Mi piacerebbe battermi con gli uomini merda / Unos a otros," included a performance by Alessandro Agudio and Andrea Romano alongside an etching by Francisco Goya from the "Los Caprichos" series. Past collaborations include projects with Fitzpatrick Gallery in Paris and The Breeders in Athens. A notable 2020 project connected Eduardo Paolozzi and Genesis P-Orridge, exploring politics and sexuality during the Covid-19 emergency. The 2021 exhibition paired Massimo Grimaldi with Gustav Doré's 1863 painting "L’enfer." Octagon's reopening is supported by the Venice-based platform Ratio Artis. For 2026, the program will explore convergences between archival memory, biopolitical practices, and the aesthetics of permanent transition. An off-site monographic presentation is scheduled for June in Basel.
