NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale: A Cultural Anchor in South Florida

Since 1958, the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, located at One East Las Olas Boulevard, has served as a vital cultural hub in South Florida. The museum's structure, which was designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes, was inaugurated in 1986 and encompasses 83,000 square feet, including more than 25,000 square feet dedicated to exhibitions, a 256-seat auditorium, a café, and a store. In 2008, it became affiliated with Nova Southeastern University. The museum boasts a rich array of collections, featuring contemporary and Latin American art, along with works by William Glackens. It also showcases the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Surrounded Islands documentation exhibition. Since 2013, Director Bonnie Clearwater has broadened the museum's influence, having previously curated at the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami.
