NPR Launches Cross-Platform Video Podcast Series Featuring Prominent Hosts

NPR has introduced a new video podcast and cross-platform series titled 'NPR Newsmakers,' marking an expansion into video content. The show features long-form interviews conducted by NPR's radio personalities, including hosts from 'Morning Edition,' 'All Things Considered,' and 'Weekend Edition,' such as Steve Inskeep, Michel Martin, Ailsa Chang, and others. According to Eric Marrapodi, NPR's Vice President for News Programming, the series aims to deliver rigorous journalism without soundbites or clickbait, focusing on in-depth discussions with policy leaders, cultural figures, and innovators to provide deeper insights into current events. The content will be distributed across multiple platforms: segments will air on NPR radio shows and other podcasts like 'Up First' and 'Consider This,' while full episodes will be available as video podcasts on NPR's website, YouTube channel, and Spotify. Marrapodi emphasized that this approach allows NPR to reach both existing and new audiences seeking comprehensive analysis. Unlike other NPR podcasts, 'Newsmakers' is designed as an 'always-on' series, with episodes released promptly after recording to address breaking news, potentially on any day of the week. The initiative builds on NPR's increased investment in video, which has garnered millions of viewers over the past year through similar long-form interviews. The premiere episode debuted on March 27, featuring Maryland Governor Wes Moore in conversation with Steve Inskeep, with portions also broadcast on 'Morning Edition.'
