Noah Davis Exhibition at Hammer Museum Explores Art History and Black Aesthetics

The Hammer Museum in Los Angeles presented the first institutional survey of Noah Davis's work from June 8 to August 31, 2025. The exhibition featured paintings and installations that blend Black life experiences with references to Western art history, including works like 'Pueblo del Rio: Arabesque' (2014) and pieces from his 2015 show 'Imitation of Wealth.' Davis, who died in 2015 at age 32, often incorporated elements from artists such as Mark Rothko, Marcel Duchamp, and Jeff Koons to comment on art world value systems and cultural accessibility. The show highlighted his focus on documenting Black histories and engaging with canonical art traditions through a personal lens.
