Nina Chanel Abney's Busy Exhibition Schedule and Tiffany Foundation Grant

Nina Chanel Abney received a grant from the Tiffany Foundation shortly after a conversation with Arthur Peña in 2017. This recognition followed a period of intense activity for the artist. She had recently returned from a three-week vacation in South Africa, which came after the simultaneous opening of her critically acclaimed solo shows at Mary Boone Gallery and Jack Shainman in New York. During the conversation at The Modern in Fort Worth on the occasion of her FOCUS show, Abney mentioned her upcoming travel plans. She was scheduled to fly to Paris for an exhibition at Palais de Tokyo, then return to open a solo show at the Chicago Cultural Center in her hometown, despite anticipated snowy conditions. Her work "Hobson's Choice," a 2017 acrylic and spray paint on canvas measuring 84 ¼" x 120 ¼", is in the collection of the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University as a museum purchase.
