Nicolas Miglioresi Documents Milan's Closed Music Venues in "Curfew: Forever"
Nicolas Miglioresi, a photographer born in 2005, has produced "Curfew: Forever," a series of 12 photographs depicting former live music venues in Milan that are now abandoned. Over the past year, Miglioresi mapped venues that closed in the last decade due to the pandemic, lease non-renewals, or unsustainable renovation costs. The title "curfew" borrows from concert jargon—the mandatory time music must stop, often set by municipal noise ordinances—but here refers to the day each venue permanently ceased operations. Among the documented spaces are District 272 on Via Padova, which closed in August 2026 due to expired permits and required renovations; Plastic, which shut in September 2025 after 45 years; Salumeria della Musica, open from 1999 to 2018 after over 4,000 concerts; Le Trottoir, closed in 2025 after losing a municipal tender; Palasharp, abandoned for over 15 years near Lampugnano station; Blues House and La Buca, both lost to COVID; Grey's Room; and Spirit de Milan at the former Cristalleria Livellara, whose closure remains contested. Miglioresi also created a parallel project, "Come as you are," focusing on concert audiences. The series captures historic stages that once symbolized Milan's social life but now stand as empty buildings.
