Nicola Pesacane Reveals Unpublished Genealogy of Giambattista Vico

Nicola Pesacane, a Neapolitan jurist, heraldist, and genealogist, has published "La genealogia completa inedita di Giambattista Vico" (Caramanica Editore, 2021). The research uncovers private aspects of the Enlightenment philosopher's life, including the precise location of his death in Naples, building on the work of Professor Marielva Torino. Pesacane also reveals when and why the surname "Vico" dropped the original "de" prefix. The book traces Vico's childhood in a bookshop on Via San Biagio dei Librai, his family origins in Maddaloni (Caserta), and the places that shaped his intellectual formation. The discovery resolves uncertainties that had puzzled scholars including Benedetto Croce. The volume includes documentary images and extracts from archives.
