Newspaper Club and abcD8 Launch Custom Typeface NC HEADLINE

publication · 2026-06-09

Newspaper Club, an on-demand newspaper printer based in Glasgow, has teamed up with the type foundry abcD8 to develop NC HEADLINE, a unique variable font family that takes inspiration from newspaper typography. The initiative started with in-depth research at the St Bride Foundation in London, which boasts a significant collection of typographic and printing history. Designed by abcD8, this versatile typeface features a wide array of widths and weights, making it suitable for various marketing materials and printed samples. Anne Ward, CEO of Newspaper Club, expressed the desire for a typeface that honors newspaper traditions while looking ahead. Since its inception in 2009, the company has produced over 40 million newspapers for clients like Adobe, Spotify, and Pentagram. To commemorate this achievement, they created a complete newspaper specimen in tabloid format along with a short film showcasing the collaboration.
