New York Museum Unions Ratify Contracts as Whitney Strike Looms

institutional · 2026-10-05

UAW Local 2110 announced that workers at the Brooklyn Museum, Guggenheim Museum, Jewish Museum, and American Folk Art Museum (AFAM) have approved new labor contracts. This week, the Brooklyn Museum and AFAM secured four-year agreements, while the Guggenheim and Jewish Museum ratified theirs in September. The Brooklyn Museum's contract includes annual pay increases and raises the full-time minimum salaries to between $63,585 and $129,854, effective retroactively from July 1, culminating in a 10.34% increase by the end of the contract. AFAM's first contract offers a total wage increase of 13.6% over four years. Earlier this year, AFAM's union protested due to stalled negotiations. The Guggenheim union ratified its initial contract in 2023, with discussions for enhanced job security set to commence after planned layoffs in February 2025. Local 2110 is also in talks with other museums.
