Key facts

• Canyon, a 40,000-sq.-ft contemporary art space on the Lower East Side, is tentatively due to open in the new year.
• Canyon was founded by Robert Rosenkranz and is led by Joe Thompson; it cost $40m and was designed by New Affiliates Architecture.
• Canyon will open with the exhibition Worldbuilding curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, featuring 68 artists including Rebecca Allen, Bill Viola, Laurie Anderson, Cory Arcangel, Cao Fei and Martine Syms.
• The Bronx Museum broke ground in 2024 on a $43m renovation by Marvel, scheduled to fully reopen in autumn 2027.
