New Milan Pop-Up Gallery Launches with Exhibition on Contemporary Japanese Art

A new pop-up gallery named Ghiringhelli Art Gallery has opened in Milan, founded by Nicola Ghiringhelli Forlani. Its inaugural exhibition, titled 'Refracted Worlds. Contemporary Japan Through Multiple Lenses,' runs from May 8 to June 27, 2026, at Via Tortona 20 in Milan. The show features eight artists and one collective: Kohei Nawa, Yukie Ishikawa, Kenjiro Okazaki, Mr., Ayako Rokkaku, Yuji Ueda, Noritaka Tatehana, and Chim↑Pom from Smappa!Group. These participants were chosen for their diverse approaches to imagery, spanning painting, drawing, ceramics, and hybrid practices, with themes exploring surface, time, and transformation. The exhibition's concept uses refraction as a metaphor, presenting multiple perspectives on contemporary Japan to alter perceptions. Gallery founder Ghiringhelli Forlani describes it as an open structure where each artwork influences the viewing of others, focusing on how reality is constructed rather than depicting it directly. The gallery aims to offer a flexible, urban-engaged platform to introduce lesser-explored art scenes, fostering dialogue and collecting opportunities in Milan.
