New Hong Kong Foundation Launches to Support Global Majority Artists
The Cheng-Lan Foundation, an independent organization established in 2024 by Hong Kong native Brian Yue, opened this week during Hong Kong's major art week. Founded to support artists, curators, and writers from African, Asian, Indigenous, and Latin American backgrounds, the initiative aims to diversify the contemporary art landscape. Its inaugural exhibition features Manila-based artist Cian Dayrit's solo show 'A Country, A Body,' marking his Hong Kong debut. The foundation is developing a permanent collection and has launched a residency program connecting London's Delfina Foundation with Hong Kong's Para Site. Yue describes the foundation as an extension of his diasporic experience and a platform for experimental work outside conventional institutions.
