New edition of Ara Güler's 'Istanbul' with enhanced scans

A new edition of Ara Güler's iconic photography book 'Istanbul' has been released by Éditions du Pacifique in collaboration with the Ara Güler Museum. The book features enhanced scans from original negatives, restoring the nuances of the photographer's black-and-white work. Güler (1928–2018), a Magnum Photos member known as 'the eye of Istanbul,' documented the city's streets, people, and atmosphere from the 1940s to the 1980s. Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk, who wrote the preface, met Güler in 2003 while researching his own book 'Istanbul: Memories of a City.' Pamuk's text, originally published in 2008, praises Güler's ability to capture the city's melancholy, or hüzün. The 184-page volume costs €48.
