New Britain Museum of American Art launches Puerto Rico in Focus initiative for 2026

A multi-year initiative focusing on Puerto Rican art will launch in 2026 at the New Britain Museum of American Art. This Connecticut institution, situated in an area with one of the highest per capita Puerto Rican populations in the continental United States, aims to explore connections between Puerto Rican and U.S. art. The Puerto Rico in Focus program will examine historical and contemporary intersections through themes of diaspora, community, and national identity. Contemporary Puerto Rican artists will be engaged as part of the initiative, which coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States' founding. The museum's commitment extends beyond traditional American art narratives to create more inclusive experiences. An exhibition titled The Museu will mark the beginning of this multi-project series.
