New Book Surveys Hyuro's Quietly Disruptive Street Art Legacy

Impressum has unveiled "Hyuro: Beauty of a Tragedy," a 2022 book honoring Argentine muralist Hyuro (Tamara Djurovic), who passed away in 2020 at the age of forty-six. The publication, crafted by Ângela Almeida and Maria Gómez-Senent, showcases a collection of murals, paintings, drawings, and written contributions, featuring insights from Martha Cooper, Monica Campana, Evan Pricco, and Escif. It acts as a contemplative archive focusing on themes of power, vulnerability, and care, while tackling subjects such as women's social issues and political violence. Among its significant pieces are a mural in Fortaleza addressing abortion and another in Monteleone di Puglia reflecting on wartime uprisings. The book highlights Hyuro's departure from the street-art surge of the 2010s, favoring introspection over mere spectacle, and includes writings by Steven P. Harrington and Jaime Rojo, accompanied by photographs from Diana Paun.
