Netflix's East of Eden Reboot Starring Florence Pugh Premieres October 1
Netflix is set to debut its limited series based on John Steinbeck's East of Eden on October 1, featuring seven episodes. Zoe Kazan serves as the creator, co-showrunner, and lead writer, aiming to portray the sweeping saga of the Trask family over three generations, from the Civil War to World War I. Florence Pugh will play Cathy Ames, also known as Cathy Trask and Kate Albey, a role that earned Jo Van Fleet an Oscar in 1955. Christopher Abbott stars as Adam Trask, alongside Tracy Letts (Cyrus), Mike Faist (Charles), and Joseph Zada (Cal Trask), a character previously portrayed by James Dean. Ciarán Hinds takes on Samuel Hamilton, while Hoon Lee plays Lee, Adam's Chinese American servant. Directed by Garth Davis and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre, the series uses a nonlinear format to explore deep themes, including familial expectations and moral complexity, echoing Steinbeck's notion of inherent monstrosity in humanity.
